Calibration of UV radiometers and UV measuring instruments—including third-party devices
Opsytec also calibrates UV radiometers, UV measuring instruments and UV sensors from other manufacturers. Calibration is performed for the irradiance of a defined UV lamp, traceable to national standards; almost all suitable third-party instruments can be included. On request the calibration is accredited to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03 in our own calibration laboratory.
We provide professional calibration of UV radiometers, UV meters and UV sensors from various manufacturers. Almost all suitable third-party instruments can be calibrated for the irradiance of a defined UV lamp.
The following information is particularly important for selecting the appropriate calibration procedure:
- Spectral range of the measuring instrument, e.g. 315–400 nm
- Lamp type or UV radiation source used
- If available, a current or previous calibration certificate
Depending on the instrument, measurand and application, the calibration can be performed as a DAkkS-accredited calibration or factory calibration.
Calibration with Adjustment or Determination of a Correction Factor
For third-party instruments, suitable technical documentation or adjustment instructions from the manufacturer are required for calibration followed by adjustment.
If adjustment is not possible or not intended, the existing measurement deviation is determined and documented. In addition, a correction factor can be specified.
Example:
- Reference value: 100 mW/cm²
- Instrument reading: 97 mW/cm²
- Correction factor: approx. 1.03
Using a documented correction factor offers the advantage that the measuring instrument remains technically unchanged. This supports high process stability as well as long-term comparability and calibration independent of the instrument manufacturer.
Traceable Calibration of UV Measuring Instruments
Calibration is performed using traceable reference standards, enabling reliable evaluation of measurement accuracy within the relevant UV spectral ranges. Depending on the instrument, both irradiance and radiant exposure can be determined and calibrated.
For example, we calibrate the UV PROBE 300MM and UV PROBE 150/200MM, which were formerly manufactured by AXCELIS and are used in the semiconductor industry to measure and monitor UV exposure during the lithography process.

Calibration of Kühnast UV Measuring Instruments
UV measuring instruments and UV integrators can also be calibrated. These include in particular:

Depending on the instrument, irradiance and radiant exposure are calibrated in the relevant UV-A, UV-B, UV-C and UV-Diazo spectral ranges using traceable reference standards.
Limitations of DAkkS Calibration for UV Integrators
For certain UV integrators, DAkkS-accredited calibration within the offered calibration scope is not possible due to the instrument design and the fact that these devices measure radiant exposure only. This applies in particular to:
- Kühnast UV Integrator 140 / UV-INT140
- Kühnast UV Integrator 150 / UV-INT150
A factory calibration of these instruments may nevertheless be possible, depending on the instrument version, spectral range and technical condition.
Calibration of UVP UV Meters and UVX Radiometers
Older UV meters and radiometers from UVP—Ultra-Violet Products—can also be calibrated, depending on their technical condition, spectral range, and model. These include, in particular, the widely used UVP J-Series UV meters as well as the UVX radiometer with interchangeable UVA, UVB, and UVC sensors.
The following UVP meters and sensors can be calibrated:
- UVP J-221 Longwave UV Meter – UVA meter for 300–400 nm, maximum sensitivity at 365 nm
- UVP J-225 Shortwave UV Meter – UVC meter for 220–280 nm, maximum sensitivity at 254 nm
- UVP UVX Radiometer – Digital UV radiometer for interchangeable UVX sensor heads
- UVP UVX-25 Sensor – UVC sensor for 250–290 nm, calibration point at 254 nm
- UVP UVX-31 Sensor – UVB sensor for 280–340 nm, calibration point at 310 nm
UVP UVX-36 Sensor – UVA sensor for 335–380 nm, calibration point at 365 nm
UV meters and UV sensors from the former British manufacturer Skye Instruments Limited can also be calibrated, depending on the model and technical condition. Skye Instruments was particularly known for its UV sensors and meters in the Apollo and SpectroSense series.

Calibration of Other UV Measuring Instruments and UV Sensors
In addition to the models listed above, numerous other UV radiometers, UV measuring instruments, UV sensors and UV integrators from various manufacturers can be tested and calibrated. The decisive factors are the spectral range, measurand, radiation source used and the technical suitability of the respective instrument.
